Introduction
Swordsoul is a Synchro-based archetype from the Refined Blade Selection Pack, making an impact on the Master Duel metagame immediately upon release after having previously been a top contender in both the TCG and OCG formats.
But why is the deck considered so strong one may ask, well, in this guide I hope to provide a good explanation on why that is, as I'll look at the cards and explain the basics of how Swordsoul works, along with a sample decklist and a brief combo guide.
Swordsoul Core Cards
Main Deck
Swordsoul of Mo Ye
Your most basic of starters, Mo Ye serves as a showcase for the main theme of Swordsoul: Token generation. In particular, Tuner Tokens, something that up to this point had never been done before.
Mo Ye is the Swordsoul name you'll want to see most often due to its Token spawn effect being the easiest way to get into your Level 8 Synchro plays, requiring virtually no setup, and also having the strongest GY effect out of all Swordsoul monsters. Never go with less than 3.
Swordsoul Strategist Longyuan
If Mo Ye was your most basic starter, then Longyuan is your most basic extender. The discard is basically null since you'll send something that either has a GY effect or can be grabbed back from it, and the effect itself combined with Longyuan's level makes for a very simple Baronne de Fleur or any Level 10 Synchro Monster in the game, giving you ample space for a versitile toolbox.
Incredible Ecclesia, the Virtuous
Having more ways to access Mo Ye is simply put fantastic, on top of having a somewhat versitile Special Summon condition AND a Tuner, makes Ecclesia a pretty good card. The only downside is that she is neither a Swordsoul Monster or a Wyrm, making her completly unsearchable and unusable for the effects of your other Swordsoul monsters, which can occasionally be problematic, but that really should not sway you from maxing out on the card whenever Deck space makes it possible.
